We use a number of tools and measures to understand what employees like, and don’t like about working at AGL, to help create a working environment where all employees feel engaged and inspired to come to work, stay and give their best. These tools include the Hewitt Engagement Survey, to which we invited all employees to respond in May 2007, and then again in June 2008.
Results of the 2007 survey indicated that there were a number of areas in which our people were seeking a better employment experience, including improved tools and systems to do their jobs, and more understanding of career development at AGL. This feedback has provided the focus for much of our activities this year, to strengthen the foundations and fundamentals of our people practices.
Pleasingly, the overall score of our 2008 Engagement survey showed a 31.5% increase in employee engagement over the previous year, a strong indication that our focus has been the right one, and the direction in which we are heading, a positive one.
